Week 63 - 64

This is Sister Bell.  She is one of the Stake Relief Society Presidents in one of the stakes in the mission.  A few years ago, she started a program whereby the sisters in the stake can bring their young children to their ward or branch building every 3 months to have them weighed and measured to keep track of their growth. The senior medical missionary couple from the mission attend and help determine if the child needs further medical attention.  I was able to help on Saturday along with other senior couples.  Each mother receives a bag of nutritious food to take home and she and her children receive lunch.  Here is picture of all the seniors in the mission when Elder Silva and his wife came. The only other single sister had to leave 2  weeks ago because of health.  So I am now the single single sister. We have started a Friday night tradition where we all go to dinner together.  Two weeks ago we went to a Chinese restaurant and 17 of us sat aro...

Week 62

I took a quick trip to Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park in Botswana. The falls were at their peak, powerful and amazing. Even with a full length raincoat, my clothes still got wet. The mist was so heavy that I couldn’t even see the falls on about half of the 13 lookouts. This was a very different experience than when I went in September when there had been no rain for over a year. I could see all of the falls in September, which was good. But this time, I felt them and heard them roar. Lesson learned: Whether in times of drought or plenty, there is always something good to find. At Chobe, I did a river cruise and land drive. I saw crocodiles, elephants, hippos, lions, elands, impalas, baboons, buffalo, black-backed jackals, guineafowls and monkeys.   I could see down his/her throat. Guineafowls Hippo with mouth WIDE open Nature at work.  Elephant bones.    Lioness feeding her 3 cubs

Week 61

This is Ellen.  She is the Primary teacher for the younger children in the ward I am now attending.  She has never taught young children and was struggling with her lessons.  I went to her home this week and helped her prepare her lesson for the Sunday.  Oh WOW!!  She taught the children with love, enthusiasm and most importantly, the Spirit.  While at her humble home, she insisted that I eat before I left.  The sadza and greens were delicious.   Elder Silva, a General Authority Seventy, and his wife visited the mission for a few days this week.   They attended three Zone Conferences with about 1/3 of the missionaries in each conference.  On Friday,, they met with the senior missionaries at the Mission Home for dessert before leaving.  He held a Question and Answer session before leaving.  They were so warm and welcoming.  We loved having them with us.                 ...

Week 60

Diana left on Friday.  I will miss her greatly.  We became very good friends.  But I do have the house to myself until the week before I leave. I like that.  We had a nice going away dinner for her the Sunday before she left.  I did a "roast" and poked fun at the both of us.  It was a fun send off in honor of a great woman.                                           With President and Sister Davis the day she left. That same Sunday morning, we went back to the Borrowdale Ward where we served from May- December 2024 so she could say goodbye to the many friends we had met there.  I served in Nursery and Diana in Primary.  This little girl was so excited to see her when we got out of the car that she came and jumped in her arms.   I loved being back there so much and felt that was where I needed to serve until I leave in August....
