Week 72
On Friday, I attended a "Handover" with the Humanitarian Missionaries, Chris and Leslie Meacham. The Church built 2 new buildings with 2 classrooms in each building plus 1 bathroom facility for the Rujeko Primary School. They supplied desks and whiteboards for these 4 classrooms plus 2 existing classrooms. They supplied a borehole for water and solar for the new buildings. A Handover is a ceremony where the Church turns it all over to the school. This was an amazing day. Can you see my joy?
Here is a picture of one of the classroom's exterior and interior.
The ceremony included speakers from the school, community and Senator C Z Tawengwa. He was given a goat as his gift.
This is President Sebatius, a Councilor in the Stake Presidency in the Stake where this school is located. He is holding a gift presented to the Church by the school. The couple to his right are Elder and Sister Cooper, Communications Missionaries serving in South Africa.
This is the Elder Meacham and Sister Meacham holding the gift.
The highlights of the ceremony were performances by students from the school, including the students from the upper grades through 7th grade. The drum band.
These students are performing a traditional cultural dance inviting the rains to come.
We were so welcomed by everyone. People wanted us to be in their pictures with them. These boys did not have phones but wanted us to take a picture of them with us even though they would not have the pictures.
Throughout the program, different students were invited to come and share their poems of gratitude. This little guy stole my heart. I am missing a few words I can't understand, but this is what he said, after introducing himself. "Today, I want to recite my poem to you about a beautiful new Rukeko classroom. Small and bright, a place of joy, a guiding light. We learn, we love, we dream so high. We dream up in the sky because of you. We love this place to grow inside, to find our place. We give you a big thank you, THANK YOU.
What a fabulous, fabulous day!
