Week 36
The people of Zimbabwe have been praying for rain for almost 2 years. The rain came on Tuesday. And oh how it came!! I haven't seen rain like that since being in the eye of Hurricane Erin in 1995 when living in Pensacola. Our office conference room and hallway flooded from water coming in at the base of the wall. We worked frantically to keep it contained so it would not flow into other areas. We are still thankful for the rain.
As a result of the rain, this is what I saw on my morning walk. On the way back, I saw this man chopping wood. I stopped and talked with him for a few minutes. He was delighted to be the first one there. He said this wood is excellent for cooking. Somehow he would manage to get it home on his bike.
We saw missionaries come and go this week. These fabulous missionaries were treated to dinner at a nice restaurant and a trip to the temple before going to the airport to depart. They will be missed.
Here are our new missionaries. I do their intake at the office after they receive orientation at the mission home. They come in jet lagged (the Americans) and some of them are obviously anxious. I do my best to make them feel loved and welcome. They are more relaxed when they go out the door and leave for their new areas. I am glad that I can help a little.
It's Christmas in the office. Sister Davis and her daughter, Lauren, decorated this tree with pictures of all of the 170+ missionaries. It has been fun to watch them come into the office and look for their pictures. A few have moved their picture to the very top of the tree as though they were the "star". "Put it back Elder."
I wish you could see this video. I haven't been able to upload videos to this blog. These children are practising for the Primary program outside the chapel before Sacrament Meeting starts. The conductor is a Primary child. He is leading with such enthusiasm. He is waving his arms high and big and walking back and forth in front of them. He is getting the response he wants because they are singing with enthusiasm to match his. This is a picture that another senior missionary took in her ward. I wish I could have been there for the program.
