Week 4
Week 4 included another trip to the Eastview Branch while a senior sister gave a piano lessons. I was just along for the ride and a hair styling session. The little girl doing my hair does not speak English but makes sure I know to hold the braid she has completed while she does another.
Here are pictures of the "Outdoor Shopping Mall" located a half mile from the Eastview Branch. Pictured are the Butchery, Grocery Store, Salon and Barber Shop.
A Zone Conference
The senior missionaries were invited to the Mission President's home for Easter dinner.
I taught my first English Connect classes. I have so much to learn! Even though the lessons were far from what I want them to be, the Elders and Sisters ended each session with big smiles and "We love you Sister Stephens!". I really want to teach this class well so that these amazing missionaries can improve their English speaking and writing. I also want to learn their names. But see my challenge. This is a list of the last names of the students in some of my classes.
I have been attending the Domboramwari Branch since I arrived. This was our last Sunday since we will be assigned to attend another ward or branch next week. Since the morning session of General Conference won't be streamed here until 6 this evening, they had Fast and Testimony Meeting this morning, had a baptism after that and then some who don't have Internet at home watched a Saturday session in the clerk's office. Sister Bodell and I left after the testimony meeting. This was the most spiritual testimony meeting I have ever attended. Each person bore simple, pure testimony of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Restored Gospel, Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, modern day prophets, the temple, eternal families and other gospel principles. NOT ONE PERSON veered away from pure testimony. With a few exceptions, all testimonies were less than 1 minute, allowing 26 people to bear testimony. I loved it and after each person said Amen, I was excited to hear the next testimony. We got so many hugs as we were leaving. We thought Sis Bodell would be doing Singing Time in Primary and me doing the lesson. But you just learn to go with the flow here. We found out about the baptism and General Conference viewing during the announcements in Fast and Testimony Meeting. It's okay. Here are some mamas and their babies. The little girl is carrying her brother. They start early.
